Air vs Sea Freight: Choosing the Right Method

12 July 2026 5 min read

A simple decision framework based on part value, weight and how long the vehicle can stand idle.

The rule of thumb we give customers: if the part is under 25kg and the vehicle is earning money every day, air freight almost always wins on total cost.

Sea freight becomes compelling above roughly 40kg, or when you can consolidate several orders into one groupage shipment. Our Thursday cut-off means most orders join a container within a week.

Duty is calculated on landed value in most destinations, so a cheaper freight method also reduces the duty base. Ask us for a landed-cost estimate before you commit.

For urgent, high-value electronics we usually recommend express courier — tracked door to door with insurance included.
