Diagnosing Common Ford Ranger Electrical Faults

30 June 2026 7 min read

Earth points, alternator output and body control module symptoms explained for workshop technicians.

Most Ranger electrical complaints we quote for trace back to three areas: corroded earth points, failing alternators and water ingress at connector blocks.

Start with a voltage drop test across the main earth strap before condemning any module. A 0.4V drop under load is enough to cause intermittent dash warnings.

If alternator output falls below 13.6V at idle with lights on, replace rather than repair — remanufactured units come with a 12-month warranty and are cheaper than repeat labour.

Send us the VIN and fault codes and we will confirm the exact module part number before shipping.
